Documentary Film Screening: Mariannes Noires (dir. Mame-Fatou Niang, CMU)

March 20, 2018 -
2:00pm to 4:30pm

Please note change of venue and earlier start time with respect to FRIT events flyer information.

After a screening of Niang’s documentary film, French Program graduate and undergraduate students will moderate a director commentary and audience Q&A session, as well as offering concluding remarks. Topics to be addressed include: the documentary making process, the challenges she and the co-director faced, and the critical reception and public response in the U.S. and in France. The aim of this event is to initiate a discussion of diversity in French-speaking countries and in film, issues of racism and misogyny, and the often difficult expression of cultural and artistic sensibilities in contemporary France.
