European Literature in the 19th century: Between Nation and Market

This fall semester the French and Italian programs will collaborate around the theme of ““European Literature in the 19th century: Between Nation and Market.” Francesca Savoia (who will teach “The Idea of Italy: Literature and National Identity”) and Giuseppina Mecchia (“Living Money : Investing in the French Novel, 1789-1848”) will host two speakers—Oliver Delers (U of Richmond) on Sept 15-16 and Gabriella Romani (Seton Hall U) on Oct 20-21—and a concluding roundtable event on Dec 2, featuring Jonathan Arac (English/Humanities Center), John Lyon (German), Jonathan Platt (Slavic), Ron Zboray (Communication/Cultural Studies), and Marco Cucculelli (CBA/Distinguished Italian Fulbright Lecturer).
