Congrats to French major Zeinab Abbas!

On April 21, 2020, French major Zeinab Abbas defended an Honors Thesis entitled, "Étude de cas: géographie et politique de la langue française dans les provinces des prairies au Canada" in which she explained the very particular identitarian, political and sociolinguistic circumstances of Canadian French-speaking minorities outside Québec. She advanced the hypothesis that linguistic vitality in these regions depends on much more than the often-cited "dwindling local demography." Indeed, the future of French in the prairie provinces depends equally on French language politics in Ottawa, Quebec, the rest of Canada, and even internationally. Her thesis was directed by Prof. Brett Wells and her committee was composed of Profs. John Walsh, Barbara Petrowsky, and David Petrowsky. Congrats to Zeinab!
