A bilingual, critical edition of a play written by Giuseppe Baretti (1719-1789) in the English language and published anonymously a short time after his death. Mindful of the finest of British Restoration comedies, in this play Baretti aimed to satirize the lingering old habits of licentiousness that still conditioned English life in the second half of the Eighteenth Century, as well as the more recent but widespread sentimental trends in literature and culture.
